Disaster Housing Assistance Program

Description

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is taking over long-term rental assistance for eligible families displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through a program called the Disaster Housing Assistance Program (DHAP). With an interagency agreement between HUD and FEMA, DHAP will be administered through local housing authorities and will be vital for helping families return to self-sufficiency.

The Arlington Housing Authority created the Emergency Housing Assistance Corporation, a non-profit corporation, to administer the DHAP program in Arlington, Bedford, Cleburne, Coppell, Grapevine and Waxahachie.
